In November 2024, voters in Nashville, Tenn., approved a half-penny (0.5%) sales tax surcharge and created a dedicated funding source for transportation and mobility projects included in the transportation improvement program, “Choose How You Move: An All-Access Pass to Sidewalks, Signals, Service, and Safety.”

Michael Briggs

Deputy Chief Program Officer, Office of the Mayor, City of Nashville, Tenn.

Michael Briggs, AICP, was instrumental in the development and passage of the Choose How You Move program. He served in a special advisor role to Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell as Director of Transportation Planning while leading Vanderbilt University’s Office of Transportation and Mobility. He is now the Deputy Chief Program Officer in the Mayor’s Office for the City of Nashville, Tenn.
